Matthew Brown is pleased to present Recent Sculpture, an exhibition of recent works by Patricia Ayres, Sula Bermúdez-Silverman, Luis Flores, Dan Herschlein, Heidi Lau, Lila de Magalhaes, Fin Simonetti, and TARWUK. The twelve works on view each address critical issues within the field of contemporary sculpture through a broad array of formal, thematic, and conceptual means. 

 

Patricia Ayres

 

Patricia Ayres (b. New York) lives and works in New York. She received her MFA from Hunter College in 2018, BFA from Brooklyn College, and an A.A.S degree in Fashion Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology. In 2019, she attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. 

 

Recent solo and two person exhibitions include Safe Word, Fragment Gallery, Moscow (2021) and Matthew Brown, Los Angeles (2021). Select group exhibitions include ‘Affinità Elettive, curated by Samuele Visentin, LoSpazio, Turin, Italy (2020); It Seems So Long Ago, Matthew Brown, Los Angeles (2020); Galerie Kornfeld, Berlin (2020); and Entering A Song, Koenig and Clinton Gallery, New York (2019). 

 

Ayres’s first institutional exhibition, This Basic Asymmetry, will opened at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Santa Barbara in spring 2022. 

 

She was an Artist-in-Residence at the Monira Foundation (2021–2022); Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program (2019–2021), Lower Manhattan Cultural Center (2020), The Studios at MASS MoCA (2019). In 2020, Ayres was a recipient of the NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship in Sculpture/Craft. Forthcoming residencies include those at Fountainhead, Miami (2022); Dieu Donné Workspace Program, New York (2022); and Sculpture Space, New York (2023).

 

 

Sula Bermúdez-Silverman

 

Sula Bermúdez-Silverman (b. 1993, New York) lives and works in Los Angeles. She received her BA from Bard College, NY in 2015 and her MFA form Yale, CT in 2018.

Heidi Lau (b. 1987, Macau, China) lives and works in New York.

In 2019, Lau presented Apparition for the Macau-China Collateral Exhibition at the 58th Venice Biennale. 

 

 

Lila de Magalhaes

 

Lila de Magalhaes (b. 1986, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) lives and works in Los Angeles. She holds an MFA from the University of Southern California and a BA from Glasgow School of Art, Glasgow, UK. Her recent solo and two-person exhibitions include Soup of the Night, Matthew Brown, LA; Cupid of Chaos, Ghebaly Gallery, LA; A Soft Flea, Mutt. R, LA; Remote Control, Abode, LA; Exhibition (10), SPF15, San Diego; and Motorfruit, Blood Gallery, NY. She has appeared as well in numerous group exhibitions, including Porch Gallery, Ojai; Company Gallery, NY; Freedman Fitzpatrick, LA; François Ghebaly, LA; ltd los angeles, LA; Steve Turner, LA, PANE Project, Milan; Julius Caesar, Chicago; and 356 Mission, LA. Palace of Errors in 2019 was her first solo exhibition with Deli Gallery.

 

 

Fin Simonetti

 

Fin Simonetti (b. 1985, Vancouver, British Columbia) is a Canadian artist and musician based in New York. Simonetti received her BFA from the Ontario College of Art and Design in 2009.

TARWUK 

 

TARWUK is the artistic collaboration of Ivana Vuksic (b. 1981 Dubrovnik, Croatia) and Bruno Pogacnik Tremow (b. 1981, Zagreb). Vuksic received her MA from Faculty of Political Sciences, Zagreb and Bruno received dual MFAs from Columbia University and Academy of Fine Arts, Zagreb.
